Sky Gazing Project

Dear Vajra Family,

Khandroling holds a very special place in the history of the Dzogchen Community. It was here that many of Rinpoche’s extraordinary inspirations unfolded, including dreams connected with the Universal Mandala and the Vajra Dance, making this land a place where practice, vision, and transmission came together in a unique way.

When Rinpoche first visited Khandroling, he was deeply impressed by the panoramic views from the hilltops where the Vajra Hall and retreat cabins now stand. The vast, open sky is not only beautiful—it is an essential support for Dzogchen practice, especially for Namkha Arte, the practice of sky gazing, where the limitless expanse of the sky serves as a direct support for recognizing our own true nature.

Over the years, as the surrounding trees have matured, much of this open view has gradually disappeared. Inspired by Rinpoche’s teachings on Namkha Arte, Michael Katz during a recent retreat proposed a fundraising project to carefully and selectively restore these precious views through thoughtful tree management around the Vajra Hall.

If you have been similarly touched by Rinpoche’s teachings, and by the profound history of Khandroling, we invite you to make a donation to help restore this unique practice environment for present and future practitioners. To donate, please use this link and select Sky Gazing Project from the drop down menu.

Many thanks,
Tsegyalgar East Gakyil
