About Dream Yoga

"If you are aware in the dream, you can experience many things within the dream state. It is easier to develop your (spiritual) practices in a dream than in the daytime. In the daytime we are limited by our material body, but in a dream our function of mind and our consciousness of the senses are unhindered. We can have more clarity." Chögyal Namkhai Norbu Dream Yoga and the Practice of Natural Light

People have been fascinated with the subject of dreams and dreaming since time immemorial. Dreams of clarity which may increase through techniques of Dream Yoga have been known to foretell the future, solve seemingly unsolvable problems, and give us insight into our own personality. Lucid dreams refer to those dreams during which people both have awareness that they are dreaming and yet are still asleep.

In physical yoga we must develop ourselves over time. When practicing physical yoga in the beginning we start with less advanced exercises and slowly learn to control our body. In the same way, in Dream Yoga we may first focus on learning to remember our dreams with greater frequency and also to have some insight into their meaning. After we have some success in remembering our dreams we can focus on having lucid dreams experience.

Michael Katz has a doctoral degree in psychology from New York University. He is a long time student of Tibetan Buddhism and has studied with many of the great masters of this age. He is the co-author and editor of the book "Dream Yoga and the Practice of Natural Light" with Chögyal Namkhai Norbu. He is also the author of the book "Tibetan Dream Yoga the Royal Road to Enlightenment" as well as the novel "The White Dolphin."

Michael, a Dzogchen Community Santi Maha Sangha (SMS) meditation instructor, was authorized to teach dream yoga and meditation by Chögyal Namkhai Norbu.
