Menpa Phuntsog Wangmo-la will share the traditional Tibetan preparations for Divination soup while offering helpful suggestions for the approaching new year.
On the 29th day of the last month of the Tibetan calendar year, it is customary to gather as a family over Guthuk, known as Divination Soup. Preparations ahead of time are necessary in order to cook and eat together. Click here for ingredient list and preparation instructions.
We recommend starting your broth in the morning and having ingredients ready by 4:30pm to add into the soup together, barley if using should be added 2 hrs before. While brewing, we’ll learn about the coming Year of the Water Tiger. Menpa Phunstog-la will enlighten us as to how to best approach the year with regards to astrological indications, including suggested practices and colors to wear, based on your birth animal.
At 5:30pm the dough ball divinations will be revealed. Then we will share our soup from the comfort of our own kitchens as a community.
