This season is a time to support nonprofits that are meaningful for each of us. Because we depend on the generosity of our members and friends to sustain Chögyal Namkhai Norbu Rinpoche’s teachings, we are asking each of you to please put the International Dzogchen Community at Tsegyalgar East at or near the top of your giving.
We know this is a difficult time for all of us, financially, emotionally, physically. Please understand we basically have three ways to raise the funds we need through membership, donations, and retreats and classes Currently, our monthly expenses are around $15,000 every month, almost $180,000 for the year. Please give to your capacity; working together we will sustain both our community and the teachings.
We are pleased to report that after a few years with deficits we are ending 2021 in the black. This is especially exciting because of your generosity we were also able to undertake several expensive projects: resurfacing the universal mandala in the Vajra Hall and restoring the stupa at Khandroling as well as a new schoolhouse furnace.
We need your financial support now to continue work that has to be done soon. We hope you all had a chance to read the Report on the Conway Schoolhouse carried out by the Red Gakyil with help from some of our gifted local members. They identified scraping and painting all the large windows in the schoolhouse as a priority -- with an estimated cost of $8,000 -- that needs to be done as soon as possible. We are also committed to improving the lodging accommodations at the schoolhouse and retreat cabins at Khandroilng. We purchased new mattresses in July and will continue to upgrade, including new carpeting in the dorm.
We realized after reading the Schoolhouse Report how important that kind of analysis is for understanding our financial needs. The Gakyil is committed to continuing this work for all of our properties, with a goal of expanding our restricted reserve funds so that the Vajra Hall, Khandroling, the schoolhouse, and all of our properties are cared for and sustained.
We also recognize that many of us are aging. While we encourage everyone to donate now, we also hope you will think about having IDC Tsegyalgar East in your will. Al Daggett, on the Yellow Gakyil, has extensive experience with Estate Planning and is available to discuss this with you.
Thank you again for all your support this year and please continue to support the teachings and the community; please donate now for Giving Tuesday and please renew your 2022 membership as soon as possible. If you are not a member yet, please consider joining us. Practicing and working together we will help realize our Master’s vision for all of us.
